2021 Save the University of Melbourne Grounds campaign
Over 1,700 people have signed the petition below to senior management to stop the outsourcing of the Grounds Team.
We have received incredible support from staff, students and the community in our campaign to save the University of Melbourne Grounds Team and our beautiful gardens.
We paused the campaign because senior management agreed to further negotiations around the change proposal. Unfortunately, they have returned with a decision that is totally inadequate and does nothing to address the concerns raised by the Grounds Team and supporters of the grounds.
There are currently 5 continuing grounds staff. The original change proposal would have made all of them redundant with two "supersized" positions replacing them, with the bulk of the existing work to be outsourced. The revised proposal adds the offer of an additional year-long contract for one position.
This is little more than a total dismissal of the detailed feedback provided by the Grounds Team. The threat to the University's beautiful grounds therefore remains.
So we need your help once again. Please share this petition and continue uploading your wonderful photos and testimonials. The NTEU branch will submit the petition and testimonials to senior management on 14 April, following a protest against the University's widespread job cuts and outsourcing.
